A P I 's   training is recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration and each Flight Certificate you earn is recognized world wide. You will learn through hands-on training with FAA certified ground and flight instructors at your side. Our experienced instructors have gone through extensive training programs in order to provide you with our standardized and thorough curriculum.

A P I    has been teaching pilots to fly safely and efficiently for more than 30 years in the Chicago Air Space, one of the most professional and safest flight environments in the world. During your training, you will be utilizing the same system and controllers that professional airline and corporate pilots use, which will provide you with the confidence to fly anywhere in the world.

Private Pilot Certificate   To obtain a Private Pilot Certificate you must accumulate a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, of which 30 hours is Dual Flight Instruction, and 10 hours of Solo Flight Time. The only prerequisite to start your flight training is that you are able to read, write, and understand the English language. Certification is accomplished by passing a physical exam, written exam, oral exam, and flight exam. The physical exam is required before you are allowed to fly the aircraft by yourself and it is administered by an FAA designated medical examiner. All other exams are administered at API. The normal time to complete your training is from three to six months.

Scheduling   Each Flight Lesson is scheduled for three hours. This consists of two hours and fifteen minutes of flight instruction and fifteen minutes of either pre or post flight ground instruction. An additional half hour is scheduled at no charge, for any tasks such as going to and from the aircraft, inspecting the aircraft, securing the aircraft and completing all required paperwork.

Time   The length of time that your training will take will depend on your availability, weather conditions and your skills and learning abilities.

Cost   The total cost of your flight training will vary with your abilities, your availability, your willingness and dedication to learning.  The cost per lesson is based on the Hourly Rate calculated to the nearest tenth of an hour. API has No Contracts to sign, No Initiation Fees, No Club Charges or Dues and No Obligation to continue. We therefore offer you a Pay-As-You-Fly program. Cash, Check, Master Card, VISA,and Discover Cards are accepted.

Hours   We are open 365 days a year from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. to make it convenient for you to fly. The entire API staff is committed to general aviation safety, education and above all, helping you attain your personal goals in aviation

Ground School   Various options are available, including one on one, personal instruction, home study video and personal computer courses.

Complete Pilot Shop   Our Pilot Supplies Shop offers you access to all of the training materials you will need to complete your ratings PLUS additional reading material and gift items that are sure to please any aviation fan.  Our Pilot Shop is one of the largest in the Midwest.
